Stroke

The initial appointment will consist of a comprehensive assessment of the impairments caused by the stroke, including goal setting and an explanation of the proposed treatment plan. This appointment will last approximately 60 to 70 minutes.

Assessment:
The assessment will involve a detailed evaluation of the client’s physical condition, functional abilities, and specific limitations resulting from the stroke in order to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

Treatment:
Subsequent appointments will last between 50 and 60 minutes and will focus on neurological physiotherapy tailored to the client’s individual needs. Treatment may include manual therapy techniques such as massage, stretching, and joint mobilisation, as well as exercises aimed at facilitating movement and promoting recovery. Sensory stimulation of the affected side will be incorporated to speed up the recovery. Advice and guidance for carers or caregivers will be provided when required, and clients may receive a personalised list of exercises and activities to carry out between appointments to support ongoing progress.

As part of a holistic treatment approach, positioning in bed and in a wheelchair can be assessed. Assistance with referral to Wheelchair Services can also be provided if needed.
