Spinal Injury

The initial appointment will consist of a comprehensive assessment of the injury, including goal setting and an explanation of the proposed treatment plan. This appointment will last approximately 60 to 70 minutes.

Assessment:
The assessment will involve a detailed evaluation of the injury, current functional abilities, and the client’s individual goals in order to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

Treatment:
Subsequent appointments will focus on neurological physiotherapy tailored to the client’s individual needs. These sessions will typically last between 50 and 60 minutes.

Treatment may include manual therapy techniques such as massage, stretching, and mobilisation (passive mobilization for complete spinal injuries), as well as exercises focused on facilitating movement (rehabilitation for incomplete spinal injury) and sensory stimulation.

Advice and guidance for carers or caregivers will also be provided where appropriate. Clients may also receive a personalised programme of exercises and activities to carry out between sessions in order to support progress and maintain function.

As part of a holistic treatment approach, positioning in bed and in a wheelchair can be assessed. Assistance with referral to Wheelchair Services can also be provided if required.
